Saturday in the flower shop

Beautiful Saturday here in the heart of the Garden Route and I'm sitting here in my colourful shop looking through the window at all the different people.  There is the Portuguese bakery accross the road from me, where the lady is selling the nicest little pastry delicacies and the smell of freshly baked bread fills the air.  Next to them, the coffee shop is buzzing with people popping in for a quick catch-up with friends or a quick cup of coffee before they pop into the grocer to get their fruit and veg for the week.  As if this isn't enough to make your mouth water, the Greek deli next to me has stategically placed a table with freshly baked Baklava, Kadaifi and other sweet temptations within my view, as they know my weeknesses... (Diet? What's that?)
Such a nice festive atmosphere!  I'm so glad (and blessed!) to be a part of this and to offer colourfull bunches and fragrant posies, helping people to express their feelings of joy, gratitude and happiness.
Looking at the inside of the shop it is so alive with promises and bursting with colour: Bright pink Carnations, dramatically deep purple Irisses, sunny yellow Umbelatums, soft and delicate Phaleonopsis, vibrant Cherry Brandy Roses and the soft, beautifully balanced fragrace of Narcissus and Penny Gum.  Little droplets of water shine like diamonds on the succulents and cacti and the origami butterflies that my assistant so skillfully folded makes a little girl giggle.  Mommy picks her up to touch the little stars (made from Dodder) and decides that she will have the wire angel after all.
Ooh, have to go, a blushing bride-to-be just walked through my door...

Flowers and their meaning

Have you ever wondered what the meaning of different flowers are?  Here is a list of flower names and their meanings that I found on the internet a while ago.  I'm sure that there are a lot of florists out there who (like me) are not sure of all the meanings of all the flowers and what's more, I think that tradition has changed to such a degree that people don't stick to these as a rule anymore to convey a special message...

But, none the less, here we go:
